RELATIVATOR, a contraction of relativity and elevator, where Einstein’s original thought experiment took place.

This artwork turns a brief elevator ride into a tangible way to convey Einstein’s Special Relativity concept. We do this by coupling rider’s subjective sensation of acceleration, inertia etc. with a real time display of their weight changes. At the same time, the entire glass elevator cab shifts its transparency accordingly, widening the curiosity for other passengers nearby.

Our goal is to have this unique elevator site be a small flight experiment between art and science with our subjective sensations smack against some counterintuitive reality that we live in.
